Social Sciences Research Methods Programme | SSRMP

The Social Sciences Research Methods Programme (SSRMP) at the University of Cambridge is an interdisciplinary programme providing training in research methods for postgraduate students.

Our aims

  • to provide a broad range of courses at all levels from introductory to advanced
  • to give students the capacity to frame research questions, to formulate research designs, and to apply appropriate research methods to the gathering, analysis and interpretation of evidence
  • to emphasise the practical use of the analytical techniques taught, via examples and hands-on experience
  • to provide a solid basis for students' own research, during their time at Cambridge and beyond

As well as taking modules relating their own course of study, many students take advantage of the SSRMP to learn about a wider range of techniques than those they will use in the short term. This is an excellent strategy - it enables students to:

  • place their research and choice of methods in a broader context
  • develop a critical awareness of alternative methods and approaches
  • acquire a broad range of skills transferable to subsequent careers
